TEMPLE (October 16, 2013)--A Temple man was held Wednesday in the Bell County Jail after he was arrested Tuesday following a standoff with police at a home in a local neighborhood.
Joshua Ruben Rivera, 27, was ordered held on bonds totaling $35,000, charged with assault causing bodily injury family member and injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury, online jail records showed.
Rivera was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he had held police at bay for about 90 minutes at a residence on 205 Loop Dr.
Police went to the home at around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to check on the man, but he refused to leave the house and threatened to harm himself, Temple police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said.
The officers established a perimeter around the house and began to negotiate with the man inside by phone, Wilcox said.
After about 90 minutes, the man surrendered and was taken into custody, Wilcox said.
Several roads in the area were closed because of the standoff.
