Neighborhood Standoff Ends; One Man Taken Into Custody

KILLEEN (June 5, 2014) A standoff between police and a man who was barricaded in a home with a toddler in a Killeen neighborhood ended Thursday afternoon, about 90 minutes after it started.

The man, who was not immediately identified, surrendered without incident and was taken into custody, police said.

Some nearby residences were evacuated as police surrounded the home after receiving reports of a man armed with a gun who was holding a toddler.

A woman who was in the house escaped uninjured after what started as a domestic disturbance.

Officers were sent at around 12:50 p.m. to 403 Taurus Dr. in a neighborhood west of Lions Club Park after receiving a report that a man armed with a gun was carrying a toddler.

The Killeen Police Department SWAT Team and mobile command post were deployed, but the standoff ended at around 2:20 p.m.
