LA VILLA (January 19, 2014) The La Villa Independent School District is still at odds with the City of La Villa over water rates in a dispute that resulted in a three-day delay in the start of classes after the holidays.
The La Villa School Board met Saturday evening to consider two options that La Villa city commissioners approved, but instead of approving either of them, instead authorized its attorney and the district’s superintendent to counter.
Either offer included a compromise rate less than the $14 per person surcharge that sparked the dispute between the commission and school board in December 2012.
The city cut of the district's water after students went on holiday vacation last month, saying it owes about $58,000 on its water bill.
Service was restored Wednesday after a state agency declined to intervene, and classes resumed Thursday.
