Stolen Gold, Silver, Jewelry Recovered After Texas Traffic Stop

SHAMROCK (August 26, 2013)--Nearly $217,000 worth of stolen gold, silver and jewelry taken from a Macy's, Inc. store in Alabama was recovered during a weekend traffic stop on a Texas interstate, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday.

Michael Bourgeois, 40, of Los Angeles, was taken into custody Saturday after the traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Shamrock, about 90 miles east of Amarillo, the DPS said.

Bourgeois was evidently traveling from Atlanta back to Los Angeles, authorities said.

DPS Sr. Trooper Daniel Hawthorne said the stolen gold, silver and jewelry were hidden in side panels in the trunk of the vehicle.

The stolen jewelry still had bar codes from a Macy's store in Birmingham, Ala.

The driver was arrested on a charge of possession of stolen property and remained in the Wheeler County jail on Monday.
