Student Arrested After Middle School Fire Scare

KILLEEN (February 10, 2014) A Killeen student has been arrested in connection with a Friday smoke scare at a Killeen middle school.

Fire marshals arrested the sixth-grade boy who they say
“intentionally set a toilet-paper dispenser on fire," according to Chris Mahlstedt, a Killeen fire investigator.

Authorities won’t release the student’s name because he is a minor.

Fire units were sent just after 8 a.m. Friday when an alarm was activated at Rancier Middle School.

Staff and faculty evacuated students from the the building as fire units arrived.

The situation, which ended up being a roll of toilet paper that was set afire, was “quickly isolated and contained," and no one was injured, a news release issued by the school district said.

It was a student who went into the bathroom that discovered the fire and reported it to school staff.

As soon as staff determined there was no threat to students, they were returned to class.
