MISSOURI CITY (May 16, 2014) Missouri Center police Officer Kenneth Lewis was in serious condition Friday after he fell 20 to 30 feet from a bridge during a traffic stop.
Lewis and another officer pulled a driver over just after midnight and were on the side of the highway when another vehicle slammed into their patrol car, police said.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Lewis was thrown from the bridge by the impact or jumped to get out of the way, police Lt. Paul Poulton said.
Lewis was flown to a Houston hospital.
The driver of the car the officers pulled over was also hurt and was taken to a hospital.
Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
