Fire Destroys Local Home; Wood-Burning Stove Likely Cause

HALLSBURG (October 7, 2012)—A local home is no more than ashes after a fire engulfed it just before 8 p.m. Sunday evening.

The home is located off Highway 6 in Hallsburg.

One woman was inside the home when the fire started. She got out without any serious injuries.

That woman’s daughter told News 10 she believes the fire started from a wood-burning stove. Fire officials have not confirmed the cause of the fire because they are still investigating.

At least eight engines from four different fire departments showed up to battle the blaze. The Mart, Hallsburg, Riesel and Downsville fire departments helped put out the fire.
