WEST (March 4, 2014) A man who barricaded himself inside a house near West City Hall was in custody late Tuesday morning.

Tear gas was used to flush the man out.

The 30-year-old man was taken to Providence Health Center in Waco because he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug, police said.

Earlier in the morning West police officers assisted by the McLennan County SWAT Team surrounded the house after responding to a report of a disturbance.

The man was involved in a dispute with his roommate, and when police arrived, he barricaded himself in a bedroom and refused to come out, McLennan County Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said.

The man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, has been arrested in the past for methamphetamine possession and more recently for resisting arrest, police said.

Five officers were required to control him during the most recent arrest, police said.

During the standoff, South Reagan Street was closed to traffic and officers fanned out around the house across the street from the West Volunteer Fire Department.
