WACO (February 21, 2013)--A suspended high school quarterback was named in a three count indictment charging him with sexual assault.
Charles Edward Johnson III, 17, was arrested after a female whose age wasn't released reported she was sexually assaulted at around 11 p.m. on Jan. 4, while sitting in a vehicle in front of Johnson's home, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in a Waco police news release.
Johnson originally was charged with one count of sexual assault, but subsequent investigation led to two additional counts being filed, a spokesman for the district attorney's office said Thursday.
Johnson was suspended from the University High School football team after his arrest but has since posted a $20,000 bond and been released from the McLennan County Jail.
The victim was able to leave the residence in the 2400 block of South 12th Street and then called police to report the assault, Swanton said.
Officers returned to the address at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and took Johnson into custody.
Johnson was listed on the 2012 University High School football roster as a junior quarterback.
