ANAHUAC (May 12, 2014) A teenage girl died and her older brother was hurt when an inner tube on which they were riding behind a boat hit a partly submerged tree in the Trinity River in Chambers County.
Investigators say a 16-year-old girl was taken to a Houston hospital, where she later died.
Her 24-year-old brother was hospitalized in stable condition.
The victims’ names were not immediately released.
Drought conditions linger in Texas and Lt. Dan Houghton said boaters should be aware of low water levels on the Trinity River and potential exposure to submerged trees.
