ARLINGTON (April 20 2014) Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor after a 17-year-old Texas girl fell from a window of a moving SUV and then was struck by the vehicle.
Officers arrived to find Lelys Leyva-Monreal of Arlington lying in the road at around 2:45 a.m. Saturday as three people attended to her.
Officers later determined that five people were riding in the SUV when Leyva-Monreal began hanging out an open window, police spokeswoman Tiara Richard said.
One of the victim's friends is believed to have tried to pull her back inside, Richard said.
After falling, Leyva-Monreal was hit by the SUV.
The driver stopped and let out three other passengers, but then drove off.
Leyva-Monreal died a short time later at Medical Center of Arlington.
