Teenage Texas Volunteer Firefighters Charged With Arson

RIO HONDO (January 28, 2014) Three teenage volunteer firefighters have been charged with arson in connection with a fire in an abandoned home in Rio Hondo in South Texas.

Two of the teens were arrested a day after the fire on Jan. 22, investigators said.

The third was taken into custody Monday at Rio Hondo High School, where he's a student.

Two suspects are 18 years old, while the third youth is 17.

Officials say all three teens responded to last week's fire.

A public safety official for Rio Hondo did not immediately return messages Tuesday about the arrests.

Cameron County's emergency management director, Humberto Barrera, says there could be more arrests.

Barrera says about 10 other recent fires in the area are being reviewed.
