Teenager Charged In Shooting On Austin’s Sixth Street

AUSTIN (February 25, 2014) Paul Lenorris Whitley, 19, was jailed Tuesday in lieu of $80,000 bond, charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a weekend shooting on Austin’s popular Sixth Street.

Police are trying to determine what sparked the shootings that left a man and a woman hurt.

Their names and further details about their conditions weren't immediately available.

The gunfire erupted at around 2 a.m. Sunday as bars were emptying, sending crowds into the street, Austin police Sgt. Chris Smyth said.

The gunman was involved in a large disturbance when he pulled a weapon and fired once, Smyth said.

He tried to run off, but officers were able to capture him and recover his weapon, Smyth said.

Smyth says despite big crowds that include intoxicated people, it's only the second shooting in the two years he's worked the area.
