Teenager Tells Local Firefighters He Set Garage On Fire

KILLEEN (September 19, 2012)—Charges were pending Wednesday against a teenager who told Killeen firefighters he set the garage fire they were battling.

The fire was reported at around 8 p.m. Tuesday at a vacant home at 1308 Connell Dr. in Killeen.

Killeen fire and arson investigator Chris Mahlstedt said the garage fire appeared to have started after a bag of grass clippings was set on fire.

The fire damaged part of the garage and the garage door.

Mahlstedt said while investigators were on scene, the 19-year-old, whose name wasn’t immediately released, approached one of them and admitted that he set the fire.

He was arrested at the scene.

Mahlstedt said the teen lives in the area.
