MADISON, Ala. (April 14, 2012)--An Alabama teenager accused of killing a middle school classmate was in custody Saturday in Texas after police tracked his mom's cell phone to find him, police said.
Hammad Memon, 16, and his mother, Safia Memon, were arrested Friday evening in Dallas, Madison, Ala., police Lt. John Stringer said.
Hammad Memon is accused of shooting of 14-year-old Todd Brown to death in February 2010 at Discovery Middle School in Madison.
He was released to his parents’ custody after the shooting and faced trial on June 18.
Stringer said that a judge revoked bond for the dual-citizenship teen on Friday after authorities learned he had obtained a Pakistani passport earlier in the week and was considered a flight risk.
Authorities said they will begin the process to extradite the teenager and his mother to Alabama next week.
