Teens Arrested After Texas WWII Veteran’s Home Burglarized, Vandalized

HOUSTON (January 22, 2013)--Houston police arrested two juveniles after the home of a 93-year-old World War II veteran was vandalized with spray paint during a burglary.

Police did not immediately provide additional details Tuesday on the two boys, who are 14 and 16.

They were turned over to juvenile authorities and face charges of burglary of a habitation.

Investigators say Elbert Wood returned home from a doctor's appointment Monday to find the mess.

Spray paint was used to vandalize interior walls and furniture.

A Purple Heart medal the Marine veteran earned for a shrapnel wound during the war was not damaged, however.

Police searched the neighborhood and found the two teenagers, who still had the spray paint and items that were taken from the home.

Investigators believe the pair got into the house through a window.

Wood lives alone.

His wife died a few weeks ago.
