Texas Armored Car Robbery Leads To Chase, Gunfire And A Carjacking

AUSTIN (January 15, 2013)--Police in Austin made an arrest in the robbery of an armored car guard after a chase, gunfire, and a carjacking.

An Austin police officer suffered a minor injury during the chase.

Austin police Chief Art Acevedo said the suspect was arrested late Monday at an apartment complex.

His name wasn't immediately released.

The chase started Monday afternoon following the robbery of an armored car guard in a store.

The robber drove off with bags of cash and the guard’s gun with officers in pursuit.

The man fired at officers before ditching his vehicle and taking off on foot.

Police say he then carjacked a motorist, who was later released unharmed.

An officer suffered a knee injury during the pursuit.

Police were trying to determine Tuesday if the officer, whose name wasn't immediately released, was hit by a bullet or shrapnel.
