Texas-Based Army Sgt. Major Dies Of Wounds From Enemy Attack

WASHINGTON (May 15, 2014) Army Command Sgt. Maj. Martin R Barreras, 49, of Tucson, Ariz., who was wounded earlier in this month in an attack in Afghanistan, has died in a military hospital in Texas, the Defense Department said Thursday.

Barreras was wounded in a small-arms attack on May 6 in Harat Province, Afghanistan.

He died Tuesday in San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Barreras was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, based at Fort Bliss.
