LAFAYETTE, La. (July 16, 2012)—Texas Equusearch has joined the search for a missing college coed in Lafayette, La.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette student Mickey Shunick was last seen shortly before 2 a.m. on May 19, just days before her 22nd birthday.
She had left a friend's house to ride her bicycle home.
Her bicycle was found eight days later in a remote, swampy area under a highway bridge in Iberville Parish, about 25 miles from the spot where she was last seen.
Registered sex offender Brandon Scott Lavergne, 33, was arrested on July 5 and was booked on first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping charges by police in Lafayette.
A grand jury is expected to review the case on Wednesday.
Tim Miller, director of the Houston-based nonprofit search group, said Lafayette police contacted him after Lavergne.
