RIVER OAKS (September 5, 2013)—A 1-year-old boy drowned after falling into a mop bucket at his home in River Oaks, police said.
River Oaks Deputy Police Chief Christopher Spieldenner said the boy, Miguel Tovar, was playing with siblings Wednesday evening when he wandered away, fell head-first into the mop bucket and was unable to get out.
By the time family members found him and pulled him out, he was unresponsive, Spieldenner said.
Relatives performed CPR until first responders arrived and took over, but efforts to revive the boy were unsuccessful.
Texas Child Protective Services is investigating.
Miguel's 7-year-old and 5-year-old brothers are staying with relatives during the inquiry.
