DALLAS (April 11, 2013)—A fire that broke out in an apartment in Dallas claimed the life of a 50-year-old man, but three other residents of the unit escaped thanks to a 4-year-old boy.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said the 4-year-old smelled smoke early Thursday and awakened his mother and father.
The three escaped by tying sheets together and climbing down from a second-floor balcony.
Evans said the 50-year-old man, who was also in the apartment, died at the scene.
Investigators are trying to determine what started the fire.
