Texas Boy, 4, Shoots Himself In The Face With Handgun

HOUSTON (December 12, 2012)--A 4-year-old Houston boy was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday after police say he accidentally shot himself in the face with a handgun at his family's apartment.

The shooting happened just before midnight Tuesday in northern Houston.

Police Officer Brian Evans said the boy's parents thought their son was asleep when they heard a gunshot.

They went into a bedroom and found their wounded son lying on a bed, he said.

Evans said the boy's father left the gun accidentally on a nightstand.

No charges have been filed, but the case will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney's Office for review.
