Texas Chase Ends When Truck Slams Into Home; Driver Killed

HOUSTON (February 7, 2013)--A driver who led police on a brief chase died early Thursday after his pickup truck crashed into a home in northeast Houston, barely missing a woman who was sleeping inside.

An officer tried to pull over the truck after the driver left a bar at around 2 a.m. Thursday, but the driver fled, Houston police said.

The truck, which was traveling without its lights on, nearly hit another vehicle during the short chase.

About four minutes into the pursuit, the driver evidently lost control of the truck, which slammed into the front of a home and crashed into a bedroom where a 62-year-old grandmother was sleeping.

The woman only suffered some minor cuts and four other people inside the home were not injured, police said.

The name of the 22-year-old driver wasn’t immediately released.
