MARSHALL (March 12, 2013)—Harrison County has reached a settlement with the family of an inmate who died in 2009 in what was ruled a suicide.
A federal judge in Marshall on Monday approved the settlement between the county and survivors of Julius Eugene Maloy III, who had three children.
The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.
Maloy's mother Candle Bogamy told the judge that she'll make sure her three grandchildren, who range in age from 11 to 16, use the money for college.
Part of the settlement will be released to the children when they reach age 18.
Maloy was jailed for probation violation in an assault family violence case when he died.
An autopsy found he hanged himself with a telephone cord in a separation cell.
