Texas Deputy Fired After Buying Cocaine From Undercover Officer

EDINBURG (October 17, 2012)—A Hidalgo County sheriff's deputy has been fired after investigators say he was arrested for buying cocaine from an undercover officer.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said Deputy Albert Cortez was off duty when he arrested early Tuesday on a cocaine possession charge.

Cortez is accused of buying the cocaine while outside a convenience store in Alamo.

Cortez was free Wednesday on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Trevino says Cortez was fired after his arraignment Tuesday.
