HOUSTON (August 2, 2014) A 2-year-old Houston-area girl has died of burns she suffered in an apartment that authorities say was serving as an unlicensed daycare facility.
Sheriff’s deputies and child welfare officials from Harris County are investigating.
The child, whose name has not been released, was scalded in a bathtub Thursday evening at the apartment in east Harris County.
She was flown to a hospital where she later died.
The facility is being treated as an illegal operation because there's no record of it being registered with the state, Child Protective Services spokeswoman Gwen Carter said.
Investigators are trying to find people who worked there to determine how many children may have been in the apartment at the time, she said.
