Texas High School Student Shots Self While In Custody

HOUSTON (December 5, 2012)—A Houston area high school student shot himself Wednesday while sitting in the back of a patrol car after he was arrested earlier on suspicion of taking a gun to school.

Capt. Jon Moore of the Harris County Precinct 3 constable's office said deputies were sent to the campus of North Shore High School at around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday in response to reports a student might have a weapon on campus.

The student was detained, handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.

Moore says the student somehow got a firearm and then shot himself in the back of the head.

Galena Park ISD officials said the student, whose name was not released, was conscious when he was taken to a Houston hospital.
