DALLAS (September 27, 2013)—A Dallas homeowner who shot an intruder to death was killed by responding officers when he pointed his weapon in their direction.
The incident started Thursday night with 911 calls in which residents reported that an armed man in an alley was standing over another man who had been shot.
The armed man, identified as William Hall, 57, evidently confronted a prowler who was attempting to break into his home, police said.
Hall was standing over the intruder when he pointed his gun at nearby witnesses, police said.
The officers ordered Hall to drop his weapon before he went into his home.
When he came outside again he was still armed, and officers gave him further orders to drop the weapon, police said.
Three officers opened fire when he raised the weapon toward them, police said.
The man whom Hall shot was identified as Jerry Hale, 30.
