Texas Man, 87, Killed After Shooting Wife, Then Firing At Officers

HARLINGEN (February 5, 2013)—Police in Harlingen are trying to determine what set off an 87-year-old man who shot his wife, and then opened fire on police.

Officers shot and killed him.

The officers, who responded Sunday to a family disturbance report, Price Perrin shoot his wife, Barbara, in the street in front of their home.

When the officers ordered him to drop his gun, he fired at them.

Officers returned fire, killing him.

Police Sgt. Dave Osborne says results from an autopsy on Perrin are pending.

Perrin's wife remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Osborne says investigators are trying to find out if an illness may have prompted Perrin's outburst.

A neighbor told the Harlingen Valley Morning Star the couple had recently purchased their home and that Perrin used a walker and carried an oxygen tank.
