Texas Man Accused Of Killing Wife Jumps From Highway Overpass

ALLEN (April 29, 2013)—Eric Merz, 42, of McKinney, who was free on bond after was charged in the death of his wife, has died after evidently jumping off of a highway overpass.

Merz’s body was found Sunday afternoon at the base of a highway exchange in Allen.

A preliminary investigation indicates Merz took his own life, police said.

Merz was charged with murder in the March 6 shooting death of his wife, Mary Beth, at the couple’s home.

McKinney police arrested him after finding him injured in the residence and two guns nearby.

Merz was free on bond $150,000 but was required to wear an ankle bracelet for monitoring by law enforcement.
