Texas Man Arrested In Elderly Woman’s Fiery Death

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 6, 2013)—Austin Hasten, 23, was in custody Sunday, charged with murder after an elderly woman died in a fire in Lubbock.

The Lubbock Police Department says Hasten was charged with murder in connection with the apartment fire Friday night.

He remained in the Lubbock County Jail Sunday in lieu of $3 million bond.

Jail records show Hasten lives in an apartment in the same complex where the fire broke out.

Firefighters found the woman's body after they entered her apartment to extinguish the blaze.

Sgt. Johnathan Stewart said police were dispatched to the scene because the fire appeared suspicious.

He did not say if the woman lived alone.

Her name was not immediately released.
