SAN ANTONIO (September 3, 2014) Joe Ramos Mercado, 39, was jailed Wednesday, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a weekend shooting that left his girlfriend's 6-year-old son and her 11-year-old daughter injured.
The two children were wounded Saturday while they were in a car with their mother.
Shots were fired after she and Mercado argued.
Mercado told reporters after his arrest Tuesday that he was trying to shoot the car, not the children.
Officials say both children are expected to survive.
Their mother wasn't hurt.
Mercado was being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $210,000 bond.
