FORT WORTH (May 20, 2014) Lawrence Brown of Fort Worth says his Yorkshire terrier, Maxwell, had to be euthanized after a mail carrier hit the pet in the head with a rock.
Fort Worth police and the U.S. Postal Service are investigating what happened to the dog.
Postal officials issued a statement in which they said the carrier was defending himself from a dog attack.
Brown says his pet evidently wandered across the street Saturday.
Later he said, he heard howling and found the injured dog.
He says he saw the mail carrier and asked what happened to the dog.
He said the carrier told him he hit the dog with the rock.
Maxwell suffered a skull fracture and spinal injuries and was euthanized, Brown said.
No charges have been filed
The mail carrier’s name was not released.
