Texas Man Charged In DWI Crash That Killed 2 College Students

OXFORD, Miss. (November 21,2012)—Police in Oxford, Miss., have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Texas man on charges of driving while intoxicated when his SUV collided with another vehicle resulting in the deaths of two University of Mississippi students.

Police Chief Mike Martin says John Howard Strickland, 21, who now lives in San Antonio, was expected to turn himself into authorities on Wednesday.

The warrant charges Strickland with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence in the Oct. 27 deaths of Ole Miss students John and Sarah Wheat, a brother and sister from Compton, Md.

Authorities say Strickland's eastbound SUV crossed the median of Mississippi Highway 6 and collided head-on with the car in which the Wheats were westbound.

Strickland also was an Ole Miss student at the time.
