Texas Man Charged In Pickax Murder Blames “Voices”

WEATHERFORD (January 20, 2013)—Nicholas Camfield, 24, of Weatherford, remained jailed Sunday on a murder charge after telling a Texas Ranger that "voices" told him to take a pickax to the head of another man.

Camfield is held in the Parker County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

He told a Texas Ranger he struck John Daniel Doss with the pickax "because the 'voices in his head' were telling him to do it."

Camfield also said he scalped Doss and then spent four days mutilating his body.

The details were in a probable cause affidavit released by the Parker County sheriff's department that says a friend became concerned that he hadn't been able to contact Doss and went to check on him Wednesday.
