Texas Man Convicted In Deadly Crash

EL PASO (October 4, 2012)—Miguel Vargas, 23, of El Paso, has been convicted on multiple counts in for a crash that killed two people and hurt two others riding in his car last year.

The same jury that found Vargas guilty Wednesday of two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and two counts of intoxicated assault must now decide punishment.

Each manslaughter count could carry as much as 20 years in prison and the assault counts carry 10 years each.

Vargas has been jailed since the December wreck.

Evidence showed Vargas had a blood alcohol level of 0.25, more than three times the legal limit.

He testified Wednesday that he was racing another vehicle when he lost control of his car, which crashed through a rock wall and into an office building and then caught fire.
