HOUSTON (February 21, 2014) Danish Minhas, 21, of Houston, has pleaded guilty in a murder-for-hire case in which he was accused of paying a high school classmate $4,000 in 2009 to stab his mother to death.
Minhas pleaded guilty Thursday to murder in exchange for a 50-year prison sentence.
He admitted that he paid Lee High School classmate Nur Mohamed to stab his mother, Tabassum Khan, 43, in November 2009.
At the time, Minhas was 17, Mohamed was 18.
Minhas was scheduled to go on trial Monday and could have been sentenced to life in prison if he had been convicted.
Mohamed pleaded guilty last year to murder and agreed to testify that Minhas hired him to kill Khan.
In exchange for his testimony, Mohamad was sentenced to 40 years in prison, prosecutor Angela Weltin said.
