SAN ANTONIO (December 18, 2012)—Elton Aguillard of San Antonio man has been sentenced to nine months behind bars for drowning a stray puppy that defecated in his backpack in 2010.
Aguillard was sentenced to state jail time after he pleaded guilty in November to cruelty to animals.
The puppy’s legs and muzzle were bound when it was found dead in an overflowing bathtub.
Aguillard found the dog along a street, put the animal in his backpack and sneaked the creature into his apartment where pets weren't allowed.
Aguillard says he planned to bathe the dog, which relieved itself in his backpack, but briefly left to take his father to an appointment.
A maintenance worker checking on flooding found the overflowing tub and the puppy.
