Texas Man Sentenced For Knowing Giving Woman HIV

DALLAS (January 1, 2012)—Jimmy Bernard Billingsley of Fort Worth has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for knowingly infecting a woman with HIV.

Billingsley previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

He admitted knowing since 2008 that he was HIV-positive but still having unprotected sex with a woman he was dating in 2009.

Billingsley faced as much as 20 years in prison, but the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office said state District Judge Robb Catalano settled on 15 years.

Prosecutors said Billingsley admitted to being intimate on numerous occasions with a woman he met in 2009.

The woman later learned she was HIV-positive and called police because Billingsley was the only man with whom she'd had sex.
