AUSTIN (December 13, 2012)—Jose Alfonso Aviles will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole after his capital murder conviction in the death of the mother of his high-school-age daughter's 24-year-old girlfriend.
A Travis County jury deliberated about an hour before returning the verdict.
Prosecutors say Aviles fatally shot Maria Hurtado, 57, and her daughter, Norma Hurtado, 24, in April 2001.
Police said Aviles was outraged over Norma Hurtado's lesbian relationship with his daughter.
A police affidavit had said Aviles sent threatening text messages to Norma Hurtado, threatening to kill her and her mother in at least one message.
The life sentence without parole was automatic with the conviction since prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
