Texas Man Sentenced In Girlfriend’s Dragging Death

MCKINNEY (October 25, 2012)—Theron Wayne Johnson of Weston has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for the dragging death of his girlfriend after the couple drank alcohol and argued.

A jury in McKinney convicted Johnson of criminally negligent homicide earlier Wednesday and then decided on the prison sentence.

Johnson originally was charged with murder in the 2011 death of Adana "Dodie" Craft.

The sheriff's office says Johnson told deputies his girlfriend put a rope around her neck and she tied it to the bumper.

Johnson said he drove off without knowing Craft was attached.

Authorities testified that Craft and Johnson had blood alcohol levels about three times the legal limit for driving and the couple had been fighting.

A sergeant testified he did not believe Johnson's actions were intentional.
