Texas Man Sentenced To Life For Fire That Killed His Wife

GOLIAD (January 18, 2013)—Delbert Mills, 45, has been sentenced to life in prison in Goliad for a house fire in 2003 that left his wife dead.

Mills was convicted of murder in the death of Patricia Mills, 32.

Her relatives pressed authorities to reopen the case and Mills was charged in 2011.

Prosecutor Michael Sheppard said Mills had an affair and sought to avoid paying for a divorce or child support for his son.

Sheppard also said Mills in recent years talked to many different people about being able to start a fire and not get caught.

The defense said there was no evidence that proved Mills started the fire and the source of the blaze was never determined.

Mills did not testify.
