HOUSTON (January 10, 2013)—A fight between two roommates that started over mistreatment of a dog led to a deadly shooting in Houston, police said.
Police did not immediately release the name of the 21-year-old man who died in the shooting Wednesday night.
Investigators said the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
Police say the two men were at home watching a movie when one of the men began to choke the other man's dog.
Investigators say the dog’s 21-year-old owner tried to pry his roommate off of the animal.
Police say the roommate then attacked the dog’s owner, who grabbed a gun from near his bed and opened fire.
The roommate died at a Houston hospital.
The dog’s owner, who called 911 after the shooting, was questioned and later released by police.
