LA JOYA (July 7, 2014) The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified two people who died in a crash during a police chase over the weekend as Osiel Figueroa, 21, of Weslaco, the driver of the fleeing vehicle, and Pamela Mariscal, 24, of Elsa, who was a passenger.
Figueroa sped off after authorities attempted to pull him over in Hidalgo County.
The pursuit ended when his car collided with another vehicle that was pulling onto U.S. Highway 83, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Four people in the second vehicle were injured in the crash and a woman remains in the hospital, the DPS said.
Authorities subsequently found bundles of marijuana in the trunk of Figueroa’s car.
