HOUSTON (June 18, 2014) Marine Corps veteran Joe Morris, who deployed twice to Iraq, had to convince the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that he’s not dead.
The Houston-area man received a service-related disability check for seven years, but this spring the checks stopped coming after he was mistakenly classified as deceased on April 1.
A condolence letter was sent to his parents.
Morris, however, says he spoke to government officials on April 14, nearly two weeks later, to arrange for direct deposit after his disability check evidently got lost.
Morris is getting the checks again, but says he doesn't want anyone else to have the same problems.
A VA benefits representative says officials are looking into the matter.
