Texas Nurse Accused Of Using Salt To Poison Daughter

HOUSTON (April 10, 2014) Katie Alice Ripstra, 31, was free on bond Thursday after she was charged with two counts of injury to a child/serious bodily injury.

The Houston-area woman is accused of giving her young daughter such dangerously large amounts of salt that the girl suffered a brain injury, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The girl, who’s now 4, has since recovered and has been removed from Ripstra’s custody, authorities said.

Ripstra took the child last year on four separate occasions for treatment at the hospital where she worked as a pediatric nurse, Harris County sheriff's spokesman Alan Bernstein said Thursday

Ripstra's motives are not clear, he said.

Ripstra bonded out of jail Wednesday.
