Texas Officer Injured Rescuing Driver From Burning Car To Be Honored

SAN ANTONIO (November 26, 2012)--San Antonio officials plan to honor a police officer Monday who was injured while rescuing a driver from a burning car.

Officer German Huerta was to be recognized during a ceremony Monday.

San Antonio police say he was responding to a call when a car sped past him, hit a concrete barrier and rolled several times before bursting into flames Saturday morning.

Huerta used his fire extinguisher and then broke the passenger window so he could pull the driver out of the burning vehicle.

Authorities say she was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and burns.

Huerta suffered smoke inhalation, cuts and some minor burns to his hands and arms.

San Antonio firefighters extinguished the car fire.
