SAN ANTONIO (December 20 2013) San Antonio police Officer Robert Deckard, 31, who was shot in the head by fleeing robbery suspects, has died of his injuries authorities said Friday.
Deckard died at a San Antonio hospital, 12 days after he was shot during a high-speed chase, authorities said.
Police Chief William McManus said in a statement that Deckard’s family thanked the community for prayers and support over the last several days.
The family issued a statement earlier in the week saying there was nothing more doctors could do to save the officer, whose organs will be donated in the coming days.
Funeral arrangements were pending Friday.
The chase during which the officer was shot started after a convenience store robbery.
Police arrested Jenevieve Ramos, 28, and Shawn Ruiz Puente, 32 in connection with the shooting.
Both were charged with aggravated assault of a public servant.
