Texas Officer Shot In Head During Pursuit

SAN ANTONIO (December 8, 2013)

Two suspects were taken into custody early Sunday after a San Antonio police officer was shot in the head and critically wounded during a chase.

The officer, a seven-year veteran of the department, was in intensive care at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Two men were taken into custody after daybreak Sunday in a rural area south of the city in neighboring Wilson County as police using tracking dogs and helicopters joined the manhunt.

The chase started after officers spotted a car matching the description of one involved in an armed robbery at a store.

The driver refused to stop and officers gave chase down Interstate 37 and during the pursuit gunfire was exchanged, police said.

The officer, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was struck in a head by a bullet fire through the windshield of his patrol unit, which crashed after he was hit.
