FREEPORT (October 2, 2013)—An investigation was underway Wednesday after officers in Freeport killed a man who pulled out a gun and began shooting as they attempted to question him.
Officers were investigating a report of gunfire when one of the witnesses to whom they were talking pointed out a passing car that he said belonged to the gunman.
Officers pulled the car over at an intersection and ordered the driver to show his hands, but he refused, police said.
As officers opened the car door, the man pointed a gun at them and started shooting, police said.
At least three officers returned fire, killing him.
Texas Rangers and the sheriff's office in the county southwest of Houston are investigating.
The names of the dead man and the officers involved in the shooting weren’t immediately released.
